Penny for London
Penny for London launched on 29th October 2014 and is a revolutionary way of enabling people to support the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund as part of their everyday routine. Under the scheme, commuters register their contactless debit or credit card on a special website. It means that when they tap in with the card every day they travel on Transport for London or National Rail services, they will make the donation.
Donations can be set up between 1p and 10p. If 100,000 people sign up to the scheme in 2015, it could raise more than £1 million. If one in 10 Londoners sign up, the amount could rise to in excess of £15 million. Money raised will be split between the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund, the Mayor’s Fund and charities nominated by Penny for London partners.
